Paris Trip Details Vol.1

Sorry for the delayed update on my trip to Paris. I have intended to put everything in one single post, you know, the Awards, the Motor Show, and everything in-between. But unfortunately, I still haven't got my photos from the other guy. Obviously, he's just too busy with his bla bla blas to drag a few photos from his computer to my hard drive which I gave him yesterday. So, instead of keep on waiting the endless wait, here I present you the first part of the update (without any photos), the Awards. Click "Read More..." to... well, read more.
Not so sure what are the things you care about the most, so I'll just go ahead and carry it out my way. First things first, the Awards:
Come to think of it, I could have listed a dozen reasons for not winning the awards and not a single one would be related to my own fault, but then I asked myself, what's the point after all, the judges have made their decisions, and if I did not get to win, I did not win, it's that simple. However, there is one thing, that really pissed me off. As a matter of fact, it annoys me so much, that it makes wanna punch a baby.

Now before we go on into any details about the awards, you really should take a closer look at the awards short-list first.

After going through the list, you probably noticed that there are a lot entrants from the RCA (aka. Royal College of Art) made there their way into the short-list. Now according to Euan Sey, the editor of the Interior Motives, the reason for that was because there were a lot of entrants from the RCA. The course head, Dale Harrow, has been involved with the magazine for many years, and always makes a big push to get his students to enter. It's the same with Coventry, who fielded even more registrations. Well, I had to admit, that is true. But, if you dig a little deeper into that, out of all the short-listed entries, a total of 6 RCA student's work was nominated finalist for 5 of 9 award categories. The weirdest part is that when for the first time I saw their entries, they all look familiar to me. At first, I thought I might have just confused them with someone else's work, but later on I realized I was wrong, almost all of them were just simple carry-overs from a previous competition sponsored by GE for RCA students only, which announced its winners in May 2006. That's right before the submission deadline for the IM Awards. And their works have been published all over places like cardesignnews.com and even in the May/June edition of the Interior Motives Magazine. Oh, you may think that's only natural, like Euan explained to me when I questioned her about the impartiality, as they did not preclude entries from previous competitions. But should I point out, as Interior Motives stated, all entrants should not sign their works or identify their schools during submission, and judges will only see the ID number given for each entry to ensure judging impartiality. And after making public appearances right before the judging process begun, you really believe the judges wouldn't recognize who's behind those fucking stupid ID numbers? I mean, come on people! Just think how misleading that could be,"Hey look, that's the winner of the GE competition. we should vote for that one too" Oh, fuck off.

Back on topic, the Award ceremony itself was well organized, the finalists' designs were impressive (Better than last year's if you ask me), and most importantly, it was educational, to see what a world class design school can offer to its attendees, and learn what their their students are capable of. Didn't get much chance to talk to those top figures in the automobile industry since I did not make it to the finalist therefore had nothing to talk about. Other than that, I should say I generally enjoyed the big night.

Alright, that's about it for the awards. next up, the Motor Show + everything Paris. See Ya!
